Qualifications Christy Fugate Smith - Principal Christy received her bachelor’s degree in Crop and Soil Environmental Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. On graduation, she began working for an independent agronomic consulting firm. Her work included scouting fields; examining crops for disease and insect pressures, identifying weeds, testing the soil and plants, determining yields and developing nutrient management plans.  She subsequently accepted a post with the Commonwealth of Virginia as Water Quality Specialist for the Eastern Shore Soil and Water Conservation District (ESSWCD) where she assisted growers with the many programs offered by the State and Federal government. Christy returned to the private sector to found smithAG and Environmental, Inc., a certified Woman Business Enterprise (WBE), a HUBZone small business, and a registered eVA vendor. Christy holds Certified Nutrient Management Planner in agriculture/turf and landscape status in both Virginia and Maryland. At smithAG and Environmental, Inc. our #1 service is the development and creation of certified nutrient management plans.  We have prepared plans, including those for agronomic crops, poultry operations, wastewater treatment facilities, golf courses, athletic fields, and state agencies.
